There is no reason my preservation not restoration 72 Matador has to look like an old junker. With the roof rust fixed and my simulated spray on bed liner vinyl top the car is looking much better. Next in the cosmetic line up is the wheels. It came with Volcano's and aftermarket trim rings. Naturally the red portion of the Volcano that says American Motors is trash. The center of the Volcano's are damaged also. 2 Volcano's are with a good clean up with Mother Mag Wheel polish driver quality. The other 2 are trash. Being a model car builder I have used my talents before on my cars. Using .060 sheet plastic I made new red rings and painted them the color of the car. For the damaged centers I made an AMC emblem insert. I cut a circle of .040 sheet plastic to fit, painted it the cars color. Next I use 2 more pieces of .040 sheet plastic to make a 3 dimentional AMC emblem. The first piece was painted with Eastwoods argent silver wheel paint. The next piece was painted R/W/B with testors model pain. The 3 pieces were glued together with Testors model glue. Then the whole works was clear coated. Once dry I glued the ring and the emblem to the Volcano with JB Weld after roughing up the chrome on the area where the JB was to be applied. The steel wheel itself will be painted with Eastwoods charcoal gray wheel paint. The trim rings are not pitted or rusty so I will hit them with some Mothers. I also have 20 new chrome lug nuts that I had bought 3-4 years ago for another project but never used them. The Rally steering wheel is restored and on the car but no I have a short in the horn somewhere in the steerin column. Got to fix that and install my Aougha Horn. The car needs a new set of tires so I will be pricing a set in the medium price range. I also used the emblem making process to make one for the center of the steering wheel on the Matador along with a new plexiglas lense. It came out so nice I re-di d the center of my Orange Hornet's wheel too.
