Thanks for the info on the Ford rims but after talking to a few guys at work I am just going to leave the bias tire in there for a spare. They suggested I throw a can of fix a flat in the car. That way I would only have to use it in case I had a blow out and I shouldn't have one of those with new tires. None of them suggested I put it on and drive 75mph for 100 miles but they said they wouldn't be scared to drive it 25 miles at 30mph. What I would love to put on it would be a set of bias tires but I check out the price on them and they cost way to much for me. I found of set of Japanese tires for less than $200 including balancing, valve stems and taxes. I only have been putting about 1000 miles a year on the car. I can't see spending big bucks on tires for it. I would never wear them out but I have been told you should change your tires every 10 years no matter how good the tread is. There is a good possibility that these will be the last tires I ever buy for it. You know you are getting old when a salesman ask you if you want a 10 year guarantee or a life time and you tell them that a 10 year guarantee is a life time guarantee for me.

I've used a number of Ford rims, and have always had to bore out the center hole slightly to get them to fit.  The 15's on my son's Matador came off of a mid-90's Crown Vic.  My Spirit and Javelin both have mini-spares from a Mercury Marquis. 

 

If you stay with 14's, it's getting pretty hard to find decent tires.  The last time I needed some I ordered some BF Goodrich Radial TA's from Summit Racing.  The only ones I found locally were imported junk.

I picked up a set of salvage yard take offs from an older Ford Crown Vic.  15x6.5W.  The standard 215/70R15 are a little tall in the front for my 80 Spirit but they got me through a season.  I'm still looking for something a little flashier but have just been to busy to have much of a chance!

If you search yahoo or google etc. you can find listings for wheel patterns by manufacturer and application.  I'll dig around in my achieves if you are interested.

Terry, The amc bolt pattern is the same as many other makes. Ford, Dodge, Mopar, I think even Nissan, toyota? It is 5 bolts on 4.5" center. or 5 on 4.5  The only issue you may run into is the hub hole size some fords are slightly smaller. I personally have never come across this.

Do any other manufacturers rims fit on the Gremlin. I was looking at my tires the other day and decided I am going to buy me a new set in the very near future. The tires that are on it have plenty of tread left but I know they are at least 16 years old maybe 20. I am just going with the same size that is on it. Thought about getting wider tires but I really don't see the need for them with that power house I have under the hood. My problem is my spare. It is a D78 Bias type tire. Could be one of the original tires on the car but it probably is one of the second set of tires that was on the car. I don't want to get rid of it. It is a conversation piece. While it holds air I don't know if I would really want to put it on the car and drive on it. Then again with four new tires I really shouldn't have to worry about a flat and in the slim chance I did since I never drive more than 30 miles from home I could take the back roads and never get over 30 MPH. I guess I am thinking out loud but would like to hear your thoughts. Thanks Terry
