Back in the late 60's the US was developing a Super Sonic Transport airliner to compete with the French made Concorde. There was a fear that the upper atmosphere would be harmed and the high costs made them kill the program. The Concorde itself was very fast but so expensive that it really was a failure and they are no longer flying. I would say the image of fast and luxourious travel was behind the AMC option... Tom |
