Do not pull the large nut off. Pull the brake drums off and remove the four nuts around the tube from the backside of the brake backing plate. Then pull the axle out with a slide puller if it does not come out with pressure and a sharp rap on the flange with a hammer.It is held in by the bearing.Good luck ! Rick

IM TRYING TO PUT A POSI UNIT INTO MY 68 REBEL AMC 20 UNIT....I AM NOT SURE OF THE PROCEDURE ON REMOVING THE AXLES.... THEY DONT LOOK LIKE THE GM STYLE C-CLIP. SO IM A LITTLE CONFUSED    DO I HAVE TO PULL OFF THE LARGE NUT FIRST??   THEN HOW DOES THE HUB COME OFF?    THEN HOW DOES THE AXLE SLIDE OUT.....EDDIE THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP    TONY
