Terry, speaking of dates in high school, my ex wife & me used to
practically live in back seat of my first car, a 70 Javelin, 360/AT. I
eventually took out seat and custom made mattress for back there, and the
courtesy lights in sail panels, painted inside of them blue, then with hot nail,
poked holes in them so light would shine out like laser beams or disco ball (hey
it was 1978). Might be why my first two kids born 364 days apart, that's right,
not even year apart, yikes I am king of child support. Somewhere on my site
under the PHOTO GALLERIES there are probably some photos of that first car from
1976/77 when I bought it however. No photos of ex wife there however, but you
can probably find here posing with Ron Jeremy.

      | I can understand the financial problems, family issues and illness.
I guess I understand liking to work on them too. When I was a kid I
loved working on cars. My father sat me down at the table and
explained to me once that the oil didn't have to be changed once a
month, and that believe it or not a car could go longer than two months
without the plugs and points being changed. I completely changed the
color of the interior of a car I had 4 times. Today I changed the oil in
three of my cars and  you would have thought I rebuilt the engines.
I guess people who build and sale are like artist put their whole heart
and soul in a project then move on. I just cling to things too much I
guess. Besides the Gremlin that has been in the family since it was
about new. I have three other cars, I have had one of them for 16 years
another 8 and the third one for 7 years.  Oh yea Eddie I had my
first real date in high school when I was 16 and I dated her off and on
mostly on for 8 years. Terry

Hi Terry and good question about why people restore a car, only
to sell it later. It really all depends on a whole variety of factors.
I have seen.....job losses, mortgage problems, spouses or family
member die or handicapped, move on to new project, boredom, school,
financial, rather endless list. Gary works for Exxon here in Houston,
and before this had a nice "B" SC/Rambler that I passed on...he almost
got it finished and something happendd in his life that he sold it for
$5000. So never can tell.    With me, I don't get too attached to them and sort of treat them
like girlfriends in high school and move on. However! Some.....like my
68 Rebel convertible "Machine' you sort of take a liking to regardless
of what it may/may not be worth and the car sort of grows on you. Like
herpes. Which then reminds me of old girlfriends in high school again.

                | Nice car. I would love to have something like that.
Unfortunately my wallets says give the Gremlin a bath and be
glad you have it. I do have a dumb question and Gary is sure
not the first one who has done it. Why do guys spend years of
their lives doing complete restoration on cars and when they
get them in prime condition they sale them. I have been going
to shows for 10 years and it happens every summer. Guys bring
out their beautiful cars in the spring that they have been
working on and talking about for years and by September or
October at least 50% of them will have them for sale I
know it is not the money with the price of things there is no
way you can sale them for what you have in them. Is it just
the act of turning old worn out metal into a thing of beauty
that does it for them. Just wondering. Terry
