Re: [BaadAssGremlins] car show and international engines

Thanks Eddie. So it was the other way around IH used AMC. I will have to remember that. I have no idea how he got the 232 was a Chevy. My 94 Cougar has a 232 in it but it sure isn't an AMC 232. Thanks again.

Good luck and have fun and noticed your email and thought would quickly reply in the mass of FEMA line emails I am trying to knock out (had 633 emails when power came back on after 12 days). AMC used the 258 which was also used in the IH vehicles. It is all AMC, not IH anything. IH also used 304, 360 and 401s in many of their vehicles starting in 72 up to around 1980. Bricklin www.bricklin. org  also used AMC 360s in 1974, but AMC had trouble keeping up with demand in 1974 and so Bricklin bailed and adapted to the Ford engine some of which covered on Bricklin's site. Back to IH however many a person has walked by IH Travealls, school buses, and other IH products in junkyards thru the years not realizing if they only opened the hood it was probably a 401. The badges on the IH usually say '400' but it is AMC 401. They used AMC engines to supplement their own V8s of 345 and 392 of which if you ever seen one of those under hood of IH, it looks nothing like anythign AMC One of the oldest files on my site talks about finding 401s in IH vehicles for pennies on dollar whereas if it was in a AMC might be $700-$1500 for engine, but if in IH, I have bought them for as little as $60 carb to pan as many salvage yards happy to sell anything off a IH...that is before price of steel went thru roof 5-8 years ago. You can still find many 401s on www.craigslist. com for $500-$800.

Back to the fellow who said he 'had one at one time' chances are he had one but never figured out engine size and crawled to look at casting on side of engine. Or a friend of friend told him that is what it was because it might have had Saginaw (GM) type power steering pump. So can't straighten them out as this is what mindset has been for decades you know. John Rosa used to have a neat little short article about how just because Buick made a 401 it is not AMC 401 and Mopar 360 not AMC 360 and AMC invented the 327 6 years before Chevy made one (1957 for AMC, 1962 for GM) and more and I used to have the small printout of that in my gloveboxes to give to folks who insisted that my 390 was a Ford engine, ect, and while it worked on some, others simply never leanred how to read in 2nd grade.

Got told today that I had a Chevy engine in my Gremlin. He had a 73 at one time and it had a 358 straight 6 that was made by International. They all had Ford transmission. Yea right. I do have a question I have had more than one person who said AMC's had International engines. I thought International took one of AMC's engines and put it in their pickup. I know International used to cast Ford's blocks when Ford would get behind. Did they do that for AMC?  Went to our yearly two day show in the park today. Around 1500 cars. Four AMC's. One Gremlin. Left a little early so I could cruse on the main road in the park and it was great. I know I am bragging but I am bragging for all the cars on here. The old Gremlin gets as much attention as the $75,000 cars with the 500 horse power engines. There are so many cars you really have to have something to get people to notice you when your are riding on the road.  When I take the Gremlin down the road it is almost a constant there is a Gremlin coming from the crowd. Like I said it is great. Going back tomorrow love to win the big prize. It is a $1,000 they just draw for. The fifty/fifty will be way over a grand for the winner to take home. Would love to win one of the trophies but I am not that stupid too many nice cars for that. The best of show wins a 5 foot gas pump made out of wood. Not sure what I would do with that but they get their car picture on next years T-Shirts and dash plaque.
