The th400 is electronicly kicked down (Passing gear) no matter what.    You just have to choose wether to use linkage or use a cable activated switch. Unless it a full manual th400 It really should be on there.   The B&M kit and the Lokar kit are both under $70 and brick simple to put in.
 
Plumpy72 Did you just not hook the Kickdown up?  Or are you running full manual with it?

I have run the Turbo-400 in two of my Gremlins. The first was behind a 390 and the second behind my 401. There was no problem with clearance. Both used the same engine plate behind all AMC V8's  and neither used any type of electronic kick-downs either.
