Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Re: Air shocks

I may add if you do put air shocks on.......keep it below 60psi. Otherwise you will blow out one of the shock plates, usually the driver side one comes tearing off the sheetmetal, and that is all it is under there, thins ass sheetmetal.....but the driver side is first to blow if you hit a big pothole, speedbump, on in Houston...tire, couch, honda fender or anything else laying on our freeway systems.

I also may add that my 71 SC/360 has had a set of Monroe (part # unknown) on it since I bought it in 1989; no problems, and lots of clearance, and the rear tires are 25760R15s mounted on Rebel Machine rims (15" styled steel wheels for those of you looking for correct name!), but tons of meat under there.

Either way, I have a 50/50 track record with air shocks. I don't (won't) use them on any 68-69 AMX or Javelin or 70-74 AMX or Javelin. The 70-74 has same shitty thin plate, and God (your choice of diety here) help you should you ever bust that plate, as no one will want to fix it, much less warranty the weld. And you will have to yank the tank, but again, weld will be iffy anyhows as you are welding steel to thin sheetmetal. Been there, done that car(s) never roade same and could not let my fat ass friends ride in back seat. I would pack three in front and let skinny people sit in back with cooler full of beer.

Charlie,

Don't do it.  I got a broken shock plate out of the deal due to air shocks.   Previous owner installed them.  The shock plate broke on me.  Replaced the air with good gas shocks.

Charlie why do you want to
put air shocks on your
car? If it is to raise the
rear because the springs
are weak or for looks it
is a bad idea either way.
The air shocks take the
load off the springs and
transfer it to the upper
and lower shock mounts
which were not made to
carry such a load. I have
seen both upper and lower
shock mounts broken and on
my friends 74 Javelin it
actually tore the upper
shock mount ot of the
unibody causeing a lot of
damage. Just my 2 cents
and years of personal
experience.
