The bumper guards would be same for rear of Hornet from 1973 thry 1977.

The part number you list is correct, 8992581, but for 70-72 which translates 
to:
GUARD KIT, REAR BUMPER VERTICAL (Group 15.194)
70-72 01-40 Series list $15.90 wholesale $11.90 dealer new $9.50 (in 1974)

I have enclosed a photo of the AMC dealer book showing the illustration 
however whihc might help also. So the ones you mention above are for 70-72 
and won't fit, however, someone has a set on fee-bay that looks like 
correct.

Note I sell copies of Group 15 Accessories books, one released in 1970 whihc 
covers most 1965 thru 70, the other released in 74, whihc covers much from 
68-74. Has all part numbers, group numbers and might help someone from 
buying wrong shit on ebay when people put 'AMX/Javelin mirrors!' when in 
fact it is for Matadorambassador/Rebel or Gremlin/Hornet/Concord or Matador 
coupe or Pacer series, or if you come across rare AMC radio you can ID it
