I had one when I lived in Mississippi. I had 162 Mopars, 20 Fords and 31 Chevy,s , 6 Ramblers, 1 stude....I sold them all in 2001 when I moved. Wish I hadnt. The guy I sold them to told me that he would take them all to the north and sell them since they were mostly rust free...Didnt happen. He sold them all for scrap 2 years ago....eddie walker

Eddie Stakes <eddiestakes@planethoustonamx wrote:.com> Well....yes and no. I tell people daily if there was no Toyota, there would be no junkyards. It is a huge myth that some of these newer cars last forever. Here at any Houston pick a part, which has 1500-2000 vehicle per yard, it is loaded with Toyota, Honda, BWM, Volvo, Nissan/Datsun, Kia, Hyundai, and many of these cars barely at or above 100,000 miles. So what happened? Also lots of Saturn, Geo, in there also, anyone in Houston stop in and check them out. www.houstonpickapart.com for info. If you find a AMC 360, 401 it is about $100.The problem is really simple. New cars stuff sells for more money. There is no one calling a salvage yard for say, 73 Ambassador fender anymore. So it takes up room. And room is money and so it is scrapped. A Surburban for instance can sit in there for say, 6 months, and you will make a lot of money off it! Same with newer cars and imports, the body shops luv them, as they don't have to buy a 'new' dealership fender for say, Mitsibushi. They will go get a used fender for $350 instead of $750 and pocket difference for them or their shop. You also have tons of 'knock offs' that is places that are making these plastic bumper covers and other parts to fit modern cars. At 1/2 the cost of going thru dealer.Supply and demand! nd with scrap metal prices really up in the last 7-10 years, it is not worth a salvage yard to hold onto a old car. I posted on here a 80 Spirit that I offered $350 for at a local auto auction, they bluntly told me 'I can get more in scrap for it than that' so chances are 4 months later now, this car shown here only exists in these photos I took of it. Sad? you betcha.----- Original Message -----From: CJSent: Monday, August 21, 2006 6:35 PMSubject: Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Re: mercury hidden headlampsSo instead of cushing the newer vehicles the scap the good ones people like me can't find parts for. New car parts are a dime a dozen. Final score New Cars 1 Classics 0.
Eddie Stakes <eddiestakes@planethoustonamx > wrote:.com Real simple, and this story is somewherre on my site, possbly under 'altered amcs' or 'rambler mentality' maybe somewhere else. The place was Houston Auto Storage on Carson road. A big development came in south of them about a mile, put up all these McMansions. Later they decided they wanted to expand. So they got more land north and got closer to the junkyard. Suddenly these newcomers were saying 'ewww, what is that doing in outr neighborhood?' and laws were changed even though Houston is the largest city in the US with *NO* zoning laws. So the property that the salvage yard was on, suddenly became worth more than all the cars on it. It didn't matter, convertible Camaro pace cars; GTO's you name it, it was in there, some stacked 4-5 high. When the county ordered them to crush it, they balked. Then the fines of $10,000 a day (if I recall) in violation started coming and last I heard it was on appeal, and fines were over $400,000. No rare car there worth that much, chances are all the parts well over $2 million however. Don't matter now. ----- Original Message -----From: CJSent: Monday, August 21, 2006 5:00 PMSubject: Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Re: mercury hidden headlampsThey crushed them all?! ARE THEY ALL NUTS?. Thay must be from up North. Some dude wants to buy my 76 Gremlin. If I sell it I might be able to snag a 70 460 Mark III . It looks like the one from the move THE CAR. Should it stay or should it go? I said I wanted $1,200. He offord $1,000.
Eddie Stakes <eddiestakes@planethoustonamx > wrote:.com There was one of these in a Big Bad Blue looking color in a salvage yard here, had a 429(?) it it, rusted to the ground. There was also over 50 AMCs including 3 AMXs, 15+ Javelins, several Marlins, two Hornet AMXs, 3 2 door Rebels to name a few. All have since been crushed, you can thank City of Houston for flattening that 40+ acres of jewels in SE Houston near Airport road.----- Original Message -----From: themixtoo@aol.com Sent: Monday, August 21, 2006 11:05 AMSubject: Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Cool Factor XA Cyclone with 'hide-a-way' headlights? $500 for 340 that's a gift around here. If you can find one in this are a 340 will run $750 and up. My buddy wants me to get a 360. Not sure about that motor. Ford motors are easier to find than any AMC's. What kind of 400 was it Ford or GM? they made both. Crate motors are too high. Around here crates don't have the complete motor. I saw a sweet Cyclone on ebay it was a convertible. I like the hideaway headlights on them.
Maybe i'll jog down yonder Tennessee area. They have some nice yards down there.
eddie walker <moparedwalker@yahoo.com> wrote:CJYou can still find 340's relatively cheaply. I have sold 4 complete 340 motors for $500.00 - $600.00 in the last 6 months. You can buy new 340 blocks with extra webbing for alot cheaper than you can buy a similar offering from Ford.I just put a stroked 400 (mopar) in a guy's 71 Gremlin.I had plenty of clearance. You are right, a 440 may have some issues with the brake master cylinder and you may not be able to run power steering. We had tried to find him a 401 and didnt come across anything so he took the next best thing.....There is a guy just down the road from me that put a Buick 455 in his Gremlin......looks great....I think I would rather have an AMC motor in mine though.....429 is a good little motor. I bought a couple of 70 Cyclones a couple of years ago. Both were 429's, 1 was a 4 spd. Wish I would have kept them They would fry the tires....... ..eddie walker
CJ <redneck2212@yahoo.com> wrote:Maybe i'll try to snag a ford motor. Mopars are expensive especially the motor I'd like to get (340). Back in the day (1980's) my brothers friend put a 440 in his Gremlin. It fit, I bet it was tight. As far as ford goes i'd probobly snag a 429. They are'nt as wide as a 440. My dad had one in a 70 T-Bird. It had some balls to it.
