Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Stripping paint from plastic Headlight doors?

Castrol Super Clean will remove old paint as long as it is enamel. It
will not remove Lacquer. Even the slightest bit of Lacquer thinner will
start to melt any plastic. An alternative is to have it soda blasted.
They use baking soda. I haven't used it on plastic but I was told by a
professional blaster it won't hurt the plastic if used properly and it
doesn't even hurt glass. Another alternative is to try plastic bumper
stripper. I would test it on a spare headlight door. I recently used it
on rubber/plastic 77 AMX fender flairs. No matter what method you use
you will still have to sand every nook and cranny to give the new paint
the tooth it needs to stick to the plastic so it won't peel.

This may sound like I am off my rocker and just totally off the wall.
Bradley is right about bead blasting off the paint, but I know of a guy who
makes dentures for a living and he recomended to me one time to try crushed
walnut shells instead of glass beads. Low pressure and crushed walnut shells
do wonders for the plastic and enamel on dentures. Not only does it take off
the glue and crap, but the walnut shells actually polish. I thought of
purchasing his old blaster that he had made, but he wanted to much for it. A
good sheet metal shop can make a small blaster for around 300 to 350 bucks,
depending on the size the more expensive the cost to make one. Sounds crazy
but crushed walnut shells do work also.
