Ed real easy....I have lost 45 pounds by
1. I quit drinking booze. I love Guiness, Gran
Mariner, any 'good' Tequila, Reposado, Anejo types, but gave up
booze.
2. Eat a lot of cereal in mornings, and more salads
and lighter stuff with chicken and fish in evenings. Ya'll must remember my
schedule is nothing like anyone here, get up in morning, fix food for kiddies,
change diapers, email, box shit up, tons of stuff, then go to work 6-7pm, get
home 3-4am. So I only eat twice a day, and a day sometimes consists of 20 hours.
But something been doing a quarter century also.
3. Walk, started walking 5-6 miles at nights I
don't work. Not the most fun shit, but what the hell. The best part is I can now
see my peepee when going to the rest room, used to be like the Houston Oilers
offense called 'stand and shoot' and just sort of aim and hit wall, urinal,
toilet paper, but now can actually see what to aim at, so toes stay dry.
The biggest changes were in diet and exercise. I
gave up the all you can eat ribfests, and someone broke my record at Luther's
off Gessner and I-10, whihc had stood for 4 years, 26 ribs in one sitting. No
more tacos 'only' for breakfast, more fruits and cereals.
Bottom line is my mom died at 62, and had lots of
problems like diabetes, cellulitis, congestive heart failure, high blood
pressure, breast cancer to name a few. So it was a matter of looking at stuff
suddenly a little differently at what is important in one's life. Kids, family,
and stuff like that, and would like to be around all of them for a long time so
simply had to do it.
If that fat bitch Kristie Alley can drop a few
pounds, and she looked like a keg on legs, I figured I could too.
AMC related: I can easily slide in AMC's compats
like Hornet, Gremlin, Concord and Spirit again. Used to be Lifeflight was called
with Jaws of Life to pry my ass out from behind the wheel, Paige even bought a
big shoehorn to help get me out when stuck, but no more sleeping behind the
wheel after Chinese buffet!

Gary on the Type 2 diabetes (and hope this is
not all off topic here as we are all aMCers!) it is same shit I got. Was
diagnosed last year in mid July. Since then have dropped 45 pounds, amazing
the stuff I can get into again, stuff like this
although the halter top will got o

if I put that on I guarantee many of you will
lose weight from barfing.
But simply modified my diet and walk 5-6 miles
a night and have kept the weight off easily, so it is easy to control, but
sort of have to make a committment to one's self to stay the course. Yes, I
still go hit Chinese buffets, but stomach has shrank so can't get thrown out
by Yakuzi buffet bouncers for taking out their food costs, only 2-3 plates
now, but then later go walk it off.
So hopefully a change in a little scenery will
keep everyone here around for a very long time!

I know this is not AMC related, but........
Recently, my wife and I changed to a new family doctor. We were both
becoming more and more dissatisfied with the old one. All he wanted to do
was treat everything with medication and never ordered tests.
The first day I visited with the new doctor, he ordered several
tests; the usual blood sampling, an MRI, a CT scan, an Echo-gram, a stress
test and since I am 53, he included everybody favorite, a colonoscopy. I
was even less excited about the colonoscopy when I learned that it would
cost be a chunk of change when the insurance company deemed it as
"routine" and not medically necessary. I think the worse part was the crap
they make you drink the night before.
To make a long story short, I'm damn glad I had the procedure.
It may have saved my life. During the procedure, the gastro-enterologist
removed several polyps and had them tested. As a result, I have been
diagnosed with Large B-cell Type, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Fortunately for
me, this was discovered during the routine exam and not because I was
experiencing signs or symptoms.
I met with an Oncologist for the first time yesterday. During the
office visit, he did a quick exam and found a small lump on the right side
of my neck. I've tried, but can't feel anything. I guess that's why he's
the doctor. He took a bone marrow sample and scheduled me for more blood
test as well as CT and PET scans. He doesn't even want to guess on
the treatment until he gets the test results.
I did ask him for a prognosis. He said the chances for a full cure is
very, very good and if not cured, it can at least be put into a long term
remission.
As it was said here in our group.........life throws us problems and
inconveniences. I keep telling myself that this is only an
inconvenience!
