Gilley's would be missed simply because it is a institution. People wanted
to 'experience' it due to the movie and what they heard. Many figured this is
how Texans live, which is bullshit. It might have been rough and tumble blue
collr work all day, drink & fight all night in 1982, but that was a quarter
centry+ ago.
I'm sure everyone knows another institution here just closed it's doors.
Astroworld. Seems the land was worth more than the Six Flags theme park. So
Astroworld, along with such legends as Texas Cyclone, and XLR8, is nothing
exvept flat land there now south of Reliant stadium. They sold it for $77
million, and new development like townhoumes, comdos, bars & restaruans will
be going in there as it is right next to the rail line into downtown.
And most of ya'll know the 8th wonder of the world, Astroworld, has been
quietly shuttered for years. Was great to see it come to life after Katrina when
20,000-40,000 refugees flooded it looking for shelter. Sure wished we would
legalize gambling here and turn it into a casino......
