The whole body is plated and then the matte area is painted on the inside.

I missed the last NOS one on ebay last week. I am sure I have a nice set with no pits. Not NOS but close. Actually I have everything from junk to NOS.

sand down the pits, fill them in and paint them? It appears that the
housings are really only chromed on the outer lip and have a matte
finish on the interior portion between the lip & the red plastic lens.
Am I right? Doc - have you refurbished these pieces? I need some
