I could have sworn you said the grill from the 74 you parted out had some cracks or I would have bought it. I thought mine was crack free and just needed paint until I removed it and found all the cracks in the mounting flanges. On using a roller to paint the silver it would not give the clear crisp line in the edge of the paint I want. Also it would be hard to get an even coat of silver in all the curves and crannies of the headlight doors. The grill and headlight doors of a Hornet are much more complicated and a different configuration wise than a Gremlin. I did how ever use the headlight doors I got from you in that load of parts last year. See if you can find me that set of hinges that went with the hood. Call me and let me know when you are coming. Except for tomorrow I will be home or close by the rest of the week. Tomorrow I am painting the black on the grill at my friends shop. "Doc" ------------------------ Yahoo! DOc,YOu shoulda got that grille from the 74 it was perfect. Why can't you use a roller sponge to paint the silver? I really can't wait for some good weather so I can paint my engine bay and door jambs and start assembling this beast.Davis
AMC74HORNET@xxxxxxxxx wrote:Inclosed is a pic of Luke's Hornet. Mine has the same grill and
headlight doors. Imagine the masking need to paint the silver after the
black is painted. You can't see the 12 ribs in each of the 6 sections in
the picture that just the very edge has to be painted by hand since they
are impossible to mask. I spent 3 hours yesterday with a rag and Q Tips
cleaning the grills nooks and crannies with prepsol from the sanding and
plastic repairs and I only got half of it done. Today I will finish
cleaning the other half. Tomorrow there is supposed to be a break in the
rain so I hope to get the flat black painted. Luckily I am using
Plasticote flat black sandable lacquer primer for the flat black so with
the aid of my wife's hair drier I can force dry it and start masking it
up for the silver to be sprayed by the weekend. Hopefully I will be
completely done by the end of next week after hand painting the ribs and
clear coating the whole thing. I still have to get all new stainless
steel screws and bolts. I also have to sand blast and paint the 4 small
mounting brackets. I should have everything completed and installed for
the Ardsley show June 4'th.
