[BaadAssGremlins] Sill Plate Restoration Progress

After about 30 hours of picking out dent's and ding's and sanding with
400#, 600# 1000# sandpaper and crocus cloth the first sill was ready to
polish yesterday. First I used Dupont orange rubbing compound, then I
used Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish and finished it off with Autosol
metal polish from Eastwood. It needs to be polished more with the
Autosol to finish it up. It's not perfect but as good as I can possibly
make it. It's like day and night compared to the other one which was
just washed with lacquer thinner. My original estimate of 40 hours for
the first one was right on target but was also a learning experience.
The second one should go faster because I now know exactly what I need
to do and don't have to experiment, also the next sill is in much better
shape and should come out better than the first one. The better of the
two will go on the drivers side for one simple reason. I am the only one
who drives this car and will be careful not to damage all my hard work
so it will stay nice. Sorry here is no other nice way to put it but the
wife is a putz. Almost 37 years of being married to her and watching her
damage things I say be careful with has confirmed it more times than I
care to remember. I know she will step on it or drag that 300 lbs trash
bag she calls a pocket book over it and scratch all my hard work. Since
the one on her side is not quite as nice as the drivers side and I won't
have to look at it when she scratches it. The last thing I need to do is
paint the recessed American Motors letters the orange the body is
painted for a little more detail.
