[BaadAssGremlins] Re: Wrestling old school (was flair, ect)

Ya'll be careful with language, there are a whole new gen of little AMCers reading this, thanks.

Off topic but about wrasslin. I was a dishwasher at Spanish Kitchen restaurant in 1973, possibly 74, can't remember back that far, but do remember what happened. The greasy spoon I worked at was on North Beach in Corpus christi, between harbor bridge and the causeway to Portland. It used to be all tattoo shops, biker bars, and prostitutes then but now is nice and well, better. But this little Mexican food place held about 75-100 people. On one night I saw one of my favorite wrestlers, Jose Lathario, who was a crowd favorite too in CC and well, south Texas. He was sitting in a booth eating with his wife, and Johnny Valentine (boo!) came in, with two or three other goons. Big goons. They went and got a table and ordered, and after awhile, one of them noticed Jose, so Valentine got up (he never seemed to be a crowd favorite (boo!) but he got up and walked over the Jose's table.

He put his hands on the table, leaning over as he was really big fellow, about the size for comparison of Hulk Hogan ya'll mentioned. Jose and his wife, both always class acts (they were heavily involved in chartiy stuff it seemed down there) but they kept on eating. Valentine flipped the table up and over, and all hell broke loose.

The other two goons came over and Jose battled back, plates, chairs, tables and other stuff flying. I don't care what people say about wrassling being fake, nothing fake about this brawl, people were scattering, me, a pimply faced kid in the back, was going 'this is GREAT!!' Well, Valentine and good squad left, and Jose and wife stayed, and the place was wrecked. About $3000 wrecked; the Nueces County Sherriffs, depuctys, constables, even CC PD was there now. It was big news 'Wrestling Starts Thrash restaurant'

Both parties agree to pay for damages and no charges filed. Business was OVERFLOW for the next few months as everyone wanted to see the place. But more impotantly, there was going to be a match between these two in about a month I believe it was, from the time the meyhem started in teh place I worked. And this was mentioned in each media that 'these two will tangle again at Corpus Christi Memorial Coliseum' on so and so date. Needless to say all 5000 tickets sold out pronto.
I may add as the date got closer, 200 MORE SRO tickets were released, pushing beyond capacity, but still within CCFD limits, the Coliseum for the big match. Jose won, and Texas was saved from the bad guy Valentine.

I still regret to this day 30 or so years later that I never had balls to ask for a autograph of either before all hell broke loose that night! But again, I was a kid.
