As the
third leg of this tripod, my progress (and lack thereof
on
some things) should be laid out here, too.
My
morning started rather Hellish when my bro called to ask
me to
go fetch a trailer full of wood planks from a job site in
Vernon, NJ and haul it to another site in Branchville.
A
30
minute ride when all goes well. The trailer wasn't his, but
borrowed sight unseen- and for good reason. That thing
was
one
decrepit piece of spit. dru-rotted tires wobling on a clearly
bent
straight axle, no lights, no plate, rotted stakes supports
at
least twice the weight it was rated for when new.
I
re-organized it because workers have just thrown the wood on
instead of properly stacking it and securing it. Hooking it
up
and
preparing the load for the trip took 90 minutes alone, then
the
trip, at ridiculously slow speeds, took another hour...me
aging
rapidly the whole way.
Got to
my mom's place by noon, and went back to work on the
'81
Spirit, removing it's entire dash so that Davis could have it
with
the '79 roller he was coming for. Got my black door panels
on (a
temp set as I'd forgotten to bring my nice set from home).
I
installed the temp ones cuz I gave the tan ones to Davis and
didn't
wanna leave the screw and such loose, only to get lost.
Davis
arrived (or sneaked in) and called me on the cell to say
he was
with the car duiring the 5 minutes I sat down in the house.
Still
haven't figured how we missed him pulling in.
After
the hitch fix, we got real lucky when the car just rolled
right
up onto the dolly with nearly no effot (three cheers for the
mild
slope and a running start! All the bits & pieces went in the
truck
and the car, then he followed me as I snaked thru many
local
roads to get back to my place (main roads would have
been
far slower during rush hour). We chatted some more before
tossing a 727 tranny ion the truck that had been eating up space
in my
driveway...and which I had no real use for...hence the
price.
Glad
to see Doc got his parts...tho it woulda ben cheaper to take
the
whole car! Hopefully, I'll se some of those when his car(s) is/are
at
Ardsley on May 15th. I plan to have my Hornet there, Murphy's
Law
not withstanding.
Good
to meet Davis, too. Yet another RAMBLER loon fairly local.
:)
John
DOc,
WOw you got alot done yesterday. It was great meeting you. That
yellow hornet is really nice. I love those door pannels! Your son has some
nice Iron as well. You are only about 1 1/2 hrs from me. I hope to have
somthing done by the ardsley show.
I made it to John's at 4pm. nice little collection he has. That
hatchback hornet was in really nice shape. The green one is in good shape if
someone wants to sand n paint it.
We filled the spirit with parts for the interior, thew the seats in
the back of my truck, John helped me turn the ball hitch arround so the dolly
rode level, then we rolled the spirit on and latched her down. Then we took a
little road trip and he GAVE me a 727 tranny! Thanks John!
Made it home by 930 after a pit stop for BK. The Tapnzee is
definitly the way to go!
I grabbed the spirit mainly for the front disk brake setup. I will swap
the drums from my 70 gremlin onto it to keep it a roller.
I have decided not to keep it after the swap so if someone wants it
speak up! It will be gone soon.
The 74 hornet will be cut up today and tomorrow. Then next week the
spirit will go. Then the 89 dodge truck is next.
Gotta make room for a 72 Gremlin

Made
good progress painting the last of the plastic and vinal coated
interior
molding yesterday. I am down to the 2 side metal boxes in the
hatch area
that hold the floor for the hidden compartment and the area
below the
quarter windows that is not covered by the door panel.
Hopefully they
will be painted by the middle of next week. Then I can
start to install
the interior. I still have to dynamat the inside of the
roof before the
headliner does back in and dye the faded replacement
seat belts I have
from a 77 AMX to replace the faded and frayed ones
that were in the car.
Every time I turn around there is another little
piece to paint or dye.
Also Davis stopped by on his way to N.J. and
dropped off the parts I
bought from the Hornet he parted out. It turns
out to be the same orange
color as my car. I got a bunch of good rust
free parts including the
front and rear plastic bumper fillers that with
a little clean up will
just be installed in place of the cooked, warped,
paint crumbling off
ones that are on the car. A nice rust free door to
replace the creased
and slightly rusted drivers door on the car now. It
was a real good day
all around. Today I am going back to my friends shop
and give the
interior work some real hell. The weather is getting nicer
and there is
no rain in sight for the next 5-7 days.
Yippeeeee.
