[BaadAssGremlins] swedish & norwegian hornets

Hey Bart, hope you don't mind me posting this heere, which I posted on uh,
'the other place' today. Seems some folks have problems with our cars being
called Ramblers I guess. The reason I thought it might be ok to post here,
is not so much because of the mysterious secret squirrel and his pal
freaking about about VINS (and note that the million dollar Mopar VIN and
$220K+ Yenko VIN are posted, no Al Queda at their door) but wanted to post
it here because of some of the cars in the links I have below, check out the
awesome looking custom Sportabout in Sweden, and the baadass black Hornet in
Norway to name just two, not to mention the vehicles in other parts of the
world where people remember the Rambler name. If anyone cares to read the
whole thread, it is under 'barret jackson amx gets dissed' in the 'general
chat' file of the, uh, other place. Whether one agrees with me or not, AMC
called the cars Ramblers well into the 1970s. And many people will always
remember them as Ramblers, it is really no big deal, you can still kick
their ass, or let them see your 'Rambler's tail lights on the street or
track anyhows.

And Secret Squirrel did drive a SS/AMX and his pal was named Morocco Mole:

Anyhows, roll past the bs here and enjoy the
links.......................................................

You know as Frank mentioned, AMC 'created' that legacy of 'Rambler'. Nothing
wrong with it, but even into the early 1980s you could still go to a AMC
dealership where your car would be called 'a Rambler' no matter what it was
model wise. Several of the Houston area former AMC dealerships still had
'Rambler Parts & Service' signs in the searvice bays. None however had the
name 'Rambler' streetside, I believe AMC made dealerships remove those in a
'image makeover' but not sure what year they had to comply with that.

I really don't know what the fuss is about either. All of our cars are
Ramblers, no matter what model, Rambler was the parent company at one time.
Rambler is a old, and proud name. We can try to revision it as we see fit to
represent our cars and try to distance ourselves away from it, but it will
never happen. The Rambler name is intertwined with every car that rolled off
the assembly line in Kenosha and Brampton.

I don't see any Australians, Mexicans, South Africans, and other AMC/Rambler
owners of the world taking their nameplates and emblems off their vehicles.
The Rambler name was used by AMC well into the 1970s. Maybe this is where
the confusion comes from. AMC statesside was trying to move away from that
longstanding name, while overseas still selling "Ramblers".

This is a photo off my site of Mascot Motors in Australia for example in the
1970s, I believe 1975. You have Rambler Javelins, Rambler Hornets, Rambler
Matadors, and well, Ramblers RAMBLERS. Note the sign, note the Rambler
Matador coupe on the lot:

Many old timers will ALWAYS call the cars Ramblers and no one shuold ever be
offended, be glad they didn't call it a Pinto, or Hyundai. Here is a 71
Rambler Matador fixin to be a cop car:

And check out this great looking Rambler Matador wagon turned into a
truck/utility in New Zealand:

A 1974 Rambler Matador from Australia, check out the baby photo looks to be
in the Rambler dealership showroom too; note right hand drive:

Or Sweden? If you have never given a second thought to a Rambler Hornet

AMC Rambler Club of Australia:

And shown above is a Hornet, Matador, Rebel, Javelin, yes, all Ramblers.

Kirkwood mentions "I don't look at the BJ as the benchmark of automotive
authority or history. They just herd the cars through while a few guys make
comments like the one above." Right on both counts. Yes, the cars are herded
thru like cattle here at auction. However. A number of records fall on a
variety of models. And as FallbrookAMO mentions, not all of them are cream
of the crop either, it is more of a shark infested feeding frenzy.
I may add that not ALL car owners who want to sell there get to put their
car in either, it is limited to X amount of vehicles. Someone correct me if
wrong here.

FallbrookAMO sez: "don't you feel one would be naive not to recognize the
level of exposure created within the world of the automotive officianados"
You are correct here. The level of sheer exposure is more than all
magazines, all AMC clubs put together. Why? When you have big guns like
ESPN2 and/or Speedvision telecast it, you won't be able to measure the
exposure a 'Rambler' will get, no matter how idiotic the comments from the
talking heads might be. It's called putting it on the map.

Back to original thread however about Rambler name and how it lingers. In
the last several years, the names Plymouth and Oldsmobile has joined us in
the orphan ranks. Granted, their parent company is still around, but we
can't say same with Mother Mopar and AMC, or DamlierBenz/DCX whatever they
call themselves now. My question is this? Do the Mopar people now try to
distance themselves from those historic names like we have (and as Farna
mentioned, AMC tried to in the mid 60s)?

If any of ya'll are in the Houston area April 30th, 2005, why not come check
out the 10th Annual Wooden Keels & Classic Wheels Auction and Concours De
Elegance at the Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, TX, (about 55 miles from me
near Galveston) two cars from defunct Plymouth you need to watch. One is the
the green Yenko Camaro 124379N615166 Chassis, these usually sell in the
$275K range.....the blue 70 Plymouth 383 convertible looks great, chassis
BS2N0B297503; the big dog of the meet I believe will be the 71 Plymouth
440/6pack convertible, expected to easily surpass three quarters of a
million dollars and there is also talk it will sail (no pun intened at the
yacht club) easily above one million dollars. Yes, there is the VIN in broad
daylight in case anyone wants to freak out about displaying their VIN on the
internet, like in the 'everyone read this' thread in general chat.

So if you are in Houston end of the April, come down to Seabrook and watch
the money fly. And exposure. Sorry, no Ramblers anything. There will be
Plymouths although not sure if the owners of a million dollar muscle car
wants their sled to be called by the Plymouth out-of-business moniker now.
To view the cars online go to http://theWWG.com then click on auctions, or
just click here: http://www.thewwg.com/catalogue.cfm to view the whole
catalog, you will need a adobe acrobat reader, but it is rather awesome to
see all this iron. Now let's argue about our Ramblers some more.
