[BaadAssGremlins] Re: Grill Badges (was: It Didn't Even Touch Me)

Hi Doc, glad you missed the storm. As for grill badges, yes, aMO gives a
point for having one of those on your car when being judged at their shows.
I have been in ISCA since the early 1980's and have shown cars at the
Astrodome 5-Star ISCA for years, compliling something like a 8-16 record.
Not sure some of these links wil stick, but my website has a slew of the
cars I have owned, and shown, thru the years.

That last on,e a 68 AMX, 343, AT, was totalled out only 6 months before the
show, stunnning black car got front end mashed, enibody damage, took 5 hours
to put it on the trailer after I bought it in Beaumont, TX for $600. That
photo is 6 months later, picked up a 2nd in my class that year, sold the car
a year later for $4400.

But ISCA requires you to have a decal on your car. You will have one point
deducted if no decal either on the 1/4 glass or rear bumper. And I can't
tell you how many times I have lost a first
by.....one......frigging......point.

It does not matter what year, or model, or how much your car is worth or not
worth, it is a requirement, and is stated in the contract you sign when
displaying. Here is the local Mopar car club, some nice iron:
http://www.houstonmopars.org/ar99.html

For those of you who do have your car judged at a AMO sanctioned meet, I
would highly suggest to click on this file (Adobe) and read it. "E" under
"addenum" addresses the grill badge issue. Many national clubs have this, or
a decal to display on their show cars.

Some of the badges, are Senior Division, Junions Division, America's Cup and
others, which shows the advancement that particular vehicle has reached in
competition. Others are simply a 'grill badge' identifying the vehicle as a
vehicle recognized by that particular organization, like ISCA, AMO, Olds,
Hurst register, whoever. Some cars I have seen have been showing so long
they have 3-8 grill badges, don't know how the car breaths thru the grill!

So don't read too much into it, add the grill badge, as it makes for a nice
conversation piece at cruise nights, great way to strike up conversations.
People will ask you what is this 'American Motors Owners' or "ISCA" badge
represent. It means you are a paid in good standing member of that
organization, and your vehicle is recognized by that organization.

One can be seen here from aMO (not sure what division it is in, as the car
is retired from active judging years ago, yes, that is Noah and Jacob, ages
3 and 2, behind the wheel)
another common one is seen here on my SC/360 Hornet. But rules and regs vary
from club to club on decals and badges for show purposes. Hope this sort of
somehow cleared this up!

The Nor-Easter didn't even touch me so there was no snow and just rain.
But still it got freezing cold again so I decide to stick with the plan
as if I was snowed in for a few days and am working slowly on the hatch
interior panels. I have been a member of the AMO for 7-8 years now. I
have refused to put one of their grill badges on my cars. I even
understand they give extra points at a show if you have one on your car.
I just received my renewed membership and noticed the AMO emblem on the
top of the page. I think I will see about getting that enlarged into a
decal and use that as the center for the turbine wheels on the orange
car.
