Doc the paypal scams are a virus that replicates itself from infected computers. There are others like Washington Mutual and Ebay/Your Account Needs Updating! also. Many of those are scams wanting you to click on a link to "update" your information, whereas many seem official with logos and all, the links are from places like Romania, Russia, Bulgaria, Germany and England. What I like to do is highlight the offending email, then 'right click' your mouse on it, then click on 'properties' then 'details' and it will show you most times where the email came from. And then you can forward the whole mess to THEIR server with abuse@xxxxxxxxxxx or abuse@xxxxxxxxxxx and they terminate that account for violation of terms, and also shut down the assholes (can I say that here?) account that they may, or may not, know is sending out the paypal viruses. Most know as they are trying to collect info. ID theft you know, big business. Here is a example of a right click/properties/details of a scam email for instance: ==================================== Return-Path: <lory.x@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Received: from inbound-mx5.atl.registeredsite.com ([64.224.219.93]) by imta05a2.registeredsite.com with ESMTP id <20050123152911.ZCYB14963.imta05a2.registeredsite.com@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> for <eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; Sun, 23 Jan 2005 10:29:11 -0500 Received: from planethoustonamx.com (host5-3.pool80183.interbusiness.it [80.183.3.5]) by inbound-mx5.atl.registeredsite.com (8.12.11/8.12.11) with ESMTP id j0NFSYVT021496 for <eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; Sun, 23 Jan 2005 15:28:35 GMT Message-Id: <200501231528.j0NFSYVT021496@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> From: lory.x@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To: eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Paypal account Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2005 16:28:24 +0100 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0006_000077FE.000030DC" X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal ======================== That shows the paypal scam email came from it which is Italy. So you see where it came from, in this case lory.x@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and forward the whole thing to abuse@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and most servers will take care of it, some it bounces, but a majority of them don't come back and accounts are deleted, possibly saving some poor soul the sitgma of being foolish enough to fall for it.
