Bart, I been thru about 8 hurricanes thru the
years, some worse than others (the worst was Celia in 1970, broke the wind gauge
at the airport at 161mph in Corpus Christi, we lost BOTH our houses, and every
piece of glass in our Ramblers was blown out by pebbles flying sideways) but
have seen the best and worse of people with these storms. The best? People
helping people. The worst? Gas for over $5 a gallon, and a block of ice for$10.
The best? Red Cross and utility companies coming from afar to help put the place
back together, like electrical poles, transformers; and the National Guard. The
worst? F*cking looters who have taken advantage of their neighbor's situation.
Here is a photo off my website of our yard in Corpus Christi, TX after a
hurricane, no fooling, 5 looters were shot, none by us, but we fired in theair
darn it:
Good luck down there and to all your friends and
family, been watching this hurricane now for a week, as I pay close attention to
ANY hurricane and tropical storm, you have to respect them. But as I told my
wife Paige earlier, there is not a building in San Salvador (which is getting a
DIRECT HIT as I write this with 145mph SUSTAINED winds, and gusts as high as
170mph, amazing, but there is not a building I can think of on any of the
Bahamian Islands or even Florida that was built to withstand that assualt wind
speed. So you and those folks in the path of this particular hurricane Frances
are in our prayers.
