 The 1 wire Delco was on the list of future improvements to be
made before winter. I figured I had time as this Motorola in the car was
only 9 months old and had roughly 1,000 miles on it. The Motorola one in
the car when I bought it crapped out the second week I had the car on
the road one night on my way home from the local cruise. A friend bought
4 of them from a local auto parts store just to have and sold me one for
40$. I was unable to get in touch with him so I bought one from the
local auto parts store for 60$ to get the car running. Since the weather
has been so hot lately I have mainly used this car every day as it is
the only one out of my 3 that the A/C works.
The one wire Delco is a breeze to install on a V8 with a kit from
Kennedy. My son bought one for his Javelin. And also not a problem on a
Hornet as long as it does not have power steering. Fortunatey for me the
car has power steering, unfortunate for the alt. swap though. Clearance
between the Alt and the steering box on a power steering car is minimual
at best with the stock Motorola. A guy on the AMX files had his alt. go
bad at the Kenosha meet last weekend in his American. He bought one of
Kennedys that fits in the stock mounting bracket but needed a shorter
belt to properly tighten it. He got home with the stock belt barely
turning the alt. and then replaced it with a 5/8" shorter belt. He gave
me the belt no# and I bought 2 of them. Next week I will call Kennedy
about a Deloc Alt. I figure when I have the new radiator, water pump and
timeing chain installed I will also have the Delco installed. I have
all the parts except the Delco alternator.
