Title: Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Re: Wives & Our Cars (Money)
I new I was in trouble when I walked in to the Village Inn and there sat mysecond wife talking to my first wife. I was always buying basket cases (cause they were cheap) and telling wife one that I would restore them someday. She'd say that there was no RE involved, that all I ever did was store 'em. And she was right--I hate to admit it. My business (I own a music store)takes so much of my time that I just don't have time to do much car work any more.
Upshot of it all is that I made an agreement with current wife not to buy anything that I couldn't drive home under its own power. Hated that at first, but it's been about five years now and has worked out pretty well. Haven't had a car argument for a long time. (I would never spend money that the family needed on my hobbies.) My wife does like to embarass me in public by asking how many cars I have--and I need to make out a list to come up with a number, but it's all in good fun. Let's see: 1953 Chevy, 1967 Morris Minor, 1957 Volkswagen, 2 Eagle SX 4s, 2 Eagle wagons, and THREE GREMLINS--plusa Honda Element (wifes car) an old Lexus (stepdaughters car) and old LeBaron convertible (sons) and a Dodge Caravan (belongs to the store--doesn't count) Everything runs and drives at least around the lot--most of my oldies are antique licensed and insured so I can get in and enjoy driving them.

My worst screw-up in the old days:  Shortly after marrying wife #2 I made a great deal--traded a guy a saxophone for three (yes THREE) 1953 Chevys. Of course, not one of them ran, so there owner towed them into my back yard as part of the deal. About a year later I went out to the back yard oneSunday and discovered that my wife and stepson had covered the hood, roof, and decklid of one of them with SOD. I was really peed off, more so when she told me that they'd been that way for six weeks and I hadn't even noticed.
