They have them helmets now that the glass turns from clear to dark
automatically when you strike an arc, but are expensive.

I have heard that them 110 welders work real well for the homeowners garage workshop. I never learned how to use a wire feed machine. I am an old gas welding, brazeing, 220 stick welder myself.

Well I'll tell ya, for a 110 it sure impressd me. It welds up to 5/16" with .035 flux core wire. 

I gotta get a good helmet though. The hand held shield makes welding a one handed job. I am sure I can weld better if I could use a hand to steady the tip.
