I had a friend call a few days ago and ask me to come by his house
he said he had some Gremlin parts he wanted to trade me.
Today, I finally made it by and after some old fashioned horse
trading I came with some nice parts off of a 1971 Gremlin X. He had
both front fenders in great shape, both doors in good shape, luggage
rack, both rear quarter glasses and a nice grill (it needs a small
minor repair, but easily done).
I felt I had found a gold mine! After leaving his house I went by a
small local junk yard that I had been told had a '74 Gremlin X and
a '69 Javelin. I was not as lucky her. The Gremlin was a 6 cyl and
in bad shape. I saw very few parts that salvagable and no major
items.
The Javelin has potential. It is a 290/auto car with '71 or '72
Javelin seats in it. The body was actually in very decent shape
before the rust got it. It looked like it had been setting for 20+
years. But there were a lot of salavage items throughout the cars.
If we can get together on a price it will come to my house and be
stripped. I tried to buy the car about 2 years ago and at that time
he would not come under $400. Today he offered me both cars for
$350, I think I will pass on the Gremlin and try to get a fair price
on the Javelin. I know the county is after him to get rid of them,
so I think I will call him back Monday and see what we can do.
