Installed the main bearings & crankshaft in the 360 last night. The extra time I took cleaning the oil holes and journals paid off, as the crank looks great and turns like butter in its new home. Put the rings on the pistons. According to an old AMC tech manual, the 2nd ring is supposed to go in upside down (bevel down). Anyone know why the AMC engineers designed it this way? I followed that instruction, and put the 2nd ring in upside down. It got late and I had to stop there, but hopefully I will be able to get the camshaft and pistons installed this week. Huge thanks to John who showed me one first, then watched me do the rest. I needed his expertise and assurance that all was done right. -Lu-
