In my other Hornet which I will have 30 years this comeing Feb. I only had one doughnut go bad and that was because the clamp that holds the head pipe to the bracket comeing off the trans broke and the vibration of the pipe caused the doughnut to fail. This leak was caused by the same thing but human error was the major factor here. When I had the exhaust system installed my son picked up the car for me as I didn't feel well. When I went to drive it 2 days later by the time I got to the end of the block I heard the pipe rattling under my feet and new they had left the clamp off the bracket. I brought it back and told the owner so. He looked at me like I was nuts until he put it on the lift to see I was right. I watched the guy install the clamp without loosening up the nuts on the doughnut studs and thought it was a bad move not to since he had to force the pipe to get the clamp on. A few weeks later I started hearing the pft pft noise very slightly when cold and then over the next 200 miles it just got louder. They repaired it no problem. Like I say last thing you need in the winter is an exhaust leak driveing with the window closed, but I always leave mine open at least an inch.
