If you want to check the battery, it should be done under a load. Just because it has 12 volts doesn't mean it has enough cranking amps. Also, are yousure the booster is making a good connection with the battery terminals? 

If it tries to turn the engine over and then clicks, there may be a short in the circuit somewhere or a dead short in the battery.
