Well.......... today started out with me half wanting to buy rope & half wanting to see the Sunroof Clip first - so I passed on the rope - grabbed a Large Mobil Hazelnut Decafe' and headed out to Otisville New York - where the State of New York has a Federal Prison - out in the Mountain Forest - WHICH was just down the street from: - Joes Garage - Beautiful area otherwise - the State Police maintain Horses and have their Paddocks nearby - where I waited for Joe to Show. What our NEW YORK STATE POLICE are doing with all these horses - I can't begin to guess. I'm hangin listening to the Radio for a few - having hit the local Mini-Mart for a Sorbie Orange - & in rolls a Red Nissan - with Jay Lenos Green Eyed Twin driving ! I did a double take - Joe rolled down his window & smiled - ......... this guy is OK . He said he was a bit late - G'irlfriend again'.......... Down the street we drove to a Place that his AMC stash resides - and he has some nice pieces - and what he tells you of their condition you can pretty much make book on - it ain't junk. Joe is a Street Freak - loves Led Sleds & Customs - has been into Gremlins for Years - has three or four NOS Early Gremlin X grilles - in boxes - some nice cone type wheel centers etc. ....... but where was the Sunroof clip ............ He climbed into the garage wedged between a Green early 70s Chrysler Land Yacht and floor & wall stuffed full of cool parts & a full V8 AMC in Blue I didn't ask about - buried under more cool AMC stuff. He pulled what I think was a Hornet Hood in Copper off what I thought was another White hood - but turns out to be the Sunroof Clip - !YeazzBaby......... comme to ButtHead! The clip had been cut cleanly off a White Gremlin Sunroof car - and I mean cleanly - not a ragged edge - pretty amazing to see........ The Vynil Sliding RagTop appeared in good condition - for being some 33 years old! No holes or skuffs or tears.............. The interior side was a complete surprise to me - as I'd only seen the outside in Pictures - most recently being Jerrys' Green Gremlin Sunroof .jpg he'd kindly sent me - AMC had used a Die Cut Pressboard to create interior panels around the Sunroof opening itself - and of the opening - framed in cleanly with inch or so metal strip with the interior edges trimmed in Stainless Steel round edging - like on some window strips. Nice! The underside of the RagRoofRag is finished in that Leatherette that is perforated - so as to 'Breath' - with a locking handle recessed but with one end t'wisted' down to ease grasping quickly . Suite1 Gauging from the Paint Quality - this was not a high mileage Roof Clip - and I could detect no previous roof leakage damage at all to the interior panels.............. In my Sunday Morning Phunct - I didn't get the Cherokee unloaded of the Junk I previously unloaded from my Storage container last month - so there was simply no room for a Gremlin Roof clip I thought - and - I only had six feet of old clothesline rope in the Truck - so it wasn't going on the Cherokee Roof - which still had an inch of Ice on it - Joe is an easy going good guy - we shot car talk for half an hour - both of us freezing in 19 degree mountain air - having a great time as only True Car Freaks can do - Joe loves his Cars! Has a White 6cyl Grem - a Custom Blue Paint V8 and a Red V8 Grem............ in a heated garage......... some people have luck ! I used the clothes line to measure the width of the Roof Clip - just to move around as we were both freezing in place - transferred it to the now open Cherokee & to my dismay I find - it WILL fit ......... damn! I proffered a Bid - Joe named his Price & I paid on the spot! Out came my former computer monitor - a chair - an Antique Vacuum cleaner - a crate of car stuff - four packing mats - Javelina AMX Cowl hood air cleaner rubber seal - and more junk I'd forgotten about........ for months. Joe muscled the hood out of the narrow garage confines and over the Chrysler trunk & we schlepped it out to the Cherokee - went in easily - covered it with packing mats - stuffed in all the junk under the clip then got the rear door down just enough to be tied - wedging the chair in as not to fall out.......... Done! I checked on the Gremlin seats for Mix - they are there - he has a few sets - JOe had more things to do inside - & I had to make it back to a friends house before dinner - I motored back to where I keep the Kammback- put the Sunroof Clip into indoor storage for the Winter - Safe. I feel that great feeling when you know you find that one cool part that you know you'll enjoy the hell out of each time you're with the Rig. Joe tries to make the Rod Runs & Ardsley - so if you're heading out to a Show this year - check out if he'll be attending - Joe ? Thanks ! Brien.
