Most race shops only use DOM tubing which is 3 bucks a foot! S&W has a listing for a hornet 8 point for under 150.00 plus 55 for shipping. not bad. I will be contacting CE monday as they are in CT about an hour from me. I went out and worked on my grille for 2 1/2 hrs thismornin. Lots of sanding, repairing cracks and broken spots with Plastic weld system, more sanding, more repairing, spotputtying, and one hopfully one last repair(all the old repairs are breaking). I still have about another 2 hrs of work on it before it will be ready for paint. The wife called me in to bring her to the clinic. Turns out she has poison ivy. Thats a bummer. Today I have to move my puter room to a make shift room in the un=finnished basement. Later, Davis Yahoo! The only plastic it won't work on is the flexible kind. A word of advice, back all cracks up with a thin piece of plastic or plexiglass glued in with the Plastic Welding System to prevent the cracks from opening again. Take my word on this is as it is from personal experience. That 8 point cage from S&W was the basis of the modified cage in my yellow Hornet. It is well worth the money. Wouldn't it cost more gas $$$ wise to tow it than spend the money for new brake shoes and drive it? I need the sock/filter for the NOS fuel tank sender I have to go in the orange car. If the auto parts store can't get it I will try Kennedy in Ohio or A.J. in Texas. I already have the shop to install the sender lined up. As soon as I get the sock/filter I will have that done. I also am ordering the Dynamat Extreme to finish the floor in the front of the yellow car after I have the Hurst Shifter installed. 3/4 of the interior is already done with it. I have to see the guy at a different shop about the shifter installation moday. Then the yellow car goes to the upholstery shop for the seats to be done and the custom made front carpet installed. I got a price of 700$ for the seats and carpet. It sure will be nice to see these cars get the parts and work done on them they need. This is sure fun being able to order whatever I need and not have to worry about how I am going to pay for it. Later All. I backed up all the cracks with plastic, except one that I used a piece of metal flashing. I spent another 2 hours working on it last night. Sanded it with 220 then spot putty, then sanded it with 400. Then I cleaned it with MEK and a Qtip. made sure it was all clean n dried. I started to spray it with bondo brand brown primer and it started tp wrinkle! so today if I can get some time I will resand it with 400 and try spraying it with a different kind of primer. I know the wrinkles indicate dirty parts but I used MEK which I use to clean all my parts with before paint. Never had paint wrinkle before. Maby it is a chem reaction with the old paint? I am going to make some calls this comming week to see what I can do about my roll bar. I may very well get the one from S&W. If I do I may go pick it up. I am going to Maryland in about 2 weeks to pick um a 70 390 service engine, and a spare 401 for the new Amc Team project. Bill is in Canada picking up the next Amc Team car this week. If the problem persist with the other primer you try you may have to strip the grill and start from square one. The only thing I have found that strips paint off of plastic parts other than a very expensive model paint stripper without melting them is Castrol Super Clean. You have to submerge the part in it for 24-48 hours for it to remove the paint. Oh it does not remove lacquer paints only enamels.
