Re: [BaadAssGremlins] goodbye pontiac

Something forgot to mention is if one gets on google earth and then goes to Houston, if you focus on Interstate 10 on west side (west of Beltway 8) between Kirkwood and Dairy Ashford....since the google earth images are usually a few years old, you will see a active, and thriving...Hummer dealership and next to Whataburger (yum) is a big Pontiac dealership. Both gone. I have had my eyes on that big Hummer sign laying out behind dealership....the big, individual "P"O"N"T"I"A"C" letters, about 6 feet high each, came down with a crash a few weeks ago, would have liked to have them, probably to sell to some Poncho fans for garage or warehouse, but too late now. Across I-10 there is a Saturn dealership, not sure what will become of that, but is still open, probably walking wounded like AMC dealers were in 1987-88 after axe fell.

As for my Aztek comments, yes, nothing said 'We Build Excrement' like that toaster. Hard to get excited about a lot of newer vehicles with no identity Next to Saturn dealership is a out of control Toyota dealership, driving past that place only silver, white and black soul less boxes of metal!

Interesting story Eddie.

GM cant be blamed for killling the brand, the preceding several mis-managers
had doomed the brand.  As with Olds, it was ignored to death and poor market placement. The Holden GTO is actually a pretty sweet ride but it also looks like a blander Grand Am - nothing said "We Build Excitement" and it was expensive to boot.
AMC was innovative and took chances. It had to. Car and Driver once said they brought out the Pacer on the same budget Chevy used to design ashtrays!
Pontiac stopped doing that.  Remember the 1/2 a 389 V8 fourbanger Tempest with a "rope" driveline and rear transaxel?  I had one.  Different, daring, risky. How about the 1st modern OHC 6?  8 lug brake-unified wheels.  My uncle got a 4sp/389 tripower in a 4 dr family Catalina - give em what they want.
