[BaadAssGremlins] disc brakes - 78 bendix brand

Today I took off my front tires to find the source of a clunk/scrape
sound. The "clip" that holds the caliper to the bracket fell on the
ground which solved that mystery. The pads seem to be new but the car
had been sitting for years and a botched do-it-yourself job may have
been why. My question is that after a trip to Napa to order new
retainers clips/support springs, I see in the exploded view diagram
that there is a "slipper" that seems to do the same function but on the
bottom. This is either missing or I have a different setup on mine.
Also, I was told that the clip and spring bow clip will need to be
hammered in and then a small bolt holds it in place. There seems to be
no space for the clip with the sring on it and of course the bolt is
snapped off that holds it there once tapped in place. Anyone familiar
with this setup and can tell me if this seems right?
Thanks for any advice you guys may have.
Tom
