Charlie once you have the problem solved and if you did not drop and have the tank boiled out I would not let the fuel go below 1/2 a tank to keep any crap in the bottom of the tank from getting picked up. I have heard of people using compressed air to blow the sock off the pickup tube but have never done it myself. Also when you do it make sure the gas cap is at least loose.
