You'd be better off finding a 90 - 2000 Jeep Wrangler
with the A-999 TorqueFlite.
Read up on these - as some came Hydraulic and
later came Electric. You want the Hydraulic .
I'll look thru my Info . and ask Jim B.
A-999 :
This is the same configuration as the HEMI TorqueFlite
of the '69 - '70 - '71 era - with 5 clutches / steels /
bigger drum / wider band / 4 pinion planatary gear -
and the later ones have a space provided for a cps
(crank position sensor) for EFI .
The 998 came behind the AMC 304 .
you can tell as there is 'webbing' on the
trans.case - added strength .
The 904 came behind the AMC 6.
The A-727 came behind the AMC 360 / 401 .
In AMC Eagles - the 998 is provided - and should
have had the A-999 .
ALL of these transmissions suffer the same
lack of cooling - due to small pan and small
radiator cooling capacity.
Make a HUGE Trans. cooler out of a late
model AC condensor core - just add ends
to the tubes & connect.
Earl's fittings has the correct braze on
ends for these .
ALSO - there is a 2 quart deeper pan in
cast aluminum available ; That is the one
to run - NOT that crap pressed steel pie
plate that doesn't pass any heat .
Happy Motoring !
Brien.

And it takes less Hp. to turn it letting more power get to the rear
