Terry, ever see Ed Fernandez' SIX CYLINDER Gremlin run at Cecil County and blow all those mighty AMC V8s away winning top eliminator? Nothing to snarlat consistently dropping low 11 second 1/4 miles down over and over.....
It was fun to watch, there were a handful of cars faster but Ed took them all out, this was when Paige and me visited DC in the late 90s. There is a section in AMC Power Book I believe which deals with AMC sixes at the strip.....
As for Gremlins in good/bad shape at meets, that is what is great about attending meets, you will see cars saved from junkyards, others are overrestored. And everything in between. Some are inspirational and want to rush hometo finish off your own, and others make you want to tow it to pick a part when you go home.
I'm not sure I mentioned thi son the Gremlin site here.... but did mention it on the www.amcforum.net website:
Hemming's Muscle Machines April 04, SC/360 "clone"
As mentioned in this thread earlier on this forum:
http://cgi.amcforum.net/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Chat;action=display;n um=1077347340
about the 71-74 AMX & Javelin article in the March Hemming's Muscle Machines; they followed it up in the new April 2004 issue with this: "Recreated Rarity: Can't Find A 1971 AMC Hornet SC/360? Build Your Own" which covers pages in full color 28 thru 33. Jim Donnelly is author, photos by Don Spiro, and the feature car is a abandoned in a apartment complex Hornet that was given new life by owner Bob Green and AMC fan from Cactus Cruisers AMO chapter in Arizona (which is also hosting the aMO National meet this summer: info:
http://www.amonational.com
While this is NOT a "real" SC/360 double kudos for the owner for rescueing a Hornet facing destruction; and kudos for Hemming's letting people know that you can build one of these 'clones' on the reasonable side, therefore keeping hopefully more cars from the crusher this one was facing.
To me at least that is a double score, as the exposure factor is thruthe roof and well, this car that got 'left behind at a apartment complex when the owners moved' was given another chance by a AMC fan. I personally would have rather seen a 'real' SC/360 in the article and expressed this with Jim Donnelly months ago, but also told him that I would be happy with anything they choose to put AMC in the magazine also!
Nice fat plug of my website that was unsolicited on page 10 of the new April 04 Hemmings which tells about the SC/360 Registry on my website.
http://www.planethoustonamx.com/bodySC.htm
Ya'll go take a look at it darn it. I had to totally rebuild that file after my website crashed New Years Day and it was a real to do, but has LOTS of new photos and info. If any of you have a SC/360 that is not registered, please send me your information to put these forgotten musclecars on the map!
Great job by Hemming's again on some positive, colorful, and detailedAMC coverage! Eddie Stakes' Planet Houston AMX "home of the SC/360 Registry"
The key above is that vehicle was saved from a apartment complex and the car abandoned. Bob Green, the owner is a friend of mine who in a conversationjust last week when he called me I told him his story in HMM was 'refreshing and inspirational' you could almost hear 'we are the world' choir in thebackground, well, not that bad, but I told him that hopefully this will inspire people to take chance on a AMC, kind of a "ugly ducking to golden swan story" you know!
Bob told me he sold the car a month ago for $5500.00, and it will probably be at the AMC Nationals in Arizona in summer 04. But to me at least the point was made, and very strong, that you can pick up a AMC 'reasonable' and have fun and do what you want with it....on a budget.
Ya'll take care,

You guys all make me sick with all your big power going into your Gremlins and me stuck with my six. (LOL). I better shut up or he might quit on me and I would be in trouble. I do wish you guys lived around me where I couldsee your machines in person. It might inspire me to do more with mine. I went to the AMO nationals in St. Louis in 99 to get inspired. but it didn't last long. Don't think there was a dozen Gremlin's there and while a few were great most were in worst shape them mine.
Terry.
