Re: [AMC-list] AMC Experimental/Exotic Engines

It would be so great to see photos/info about the AM General stuff!   Did they weld-up half a V-8 block to a V-8 for that twelve, or was it a single, cast-as-V-12 block?   I always thought a fab V-12 could have been done with using two aluminum-block 232s or larger on one alloy crankcase(464cu).   Just what 1975 needed.  An all-alloy V-12 in a continued Javelin-AMX with twin-turbos opening just behind the AMX parking lights, say, maybe 600 Hp.  Then, it would have been, "Trans-Am what?" And Corvettes would have been the appetizer they usually were.   Even without the V-12, an all-alloy 258 in a Pacer would have made more sense, and the mpg would have been better.

AM General has the largest stock pile of vintage AMC technology.

They have all kinds of goodies tucked away, An AL 540ci AMC V8 and a AL 600ci AMC V8 for aviation/Naval usage. Some of were produced in small numbers from '57-'75. There is also an 800ci V12 that was built but never used for mil-spec tanks.

Never knew about the AMG stuff! Wish we could get some photos of those engines... and some tech details.

I contacted Holiday Rambler years ago about the AMC FWD camper power modules. They said they got a few of them (can't remember if it were 3 or 6) and made some experimental chassis, but never went into production. They were basically Jeep setups with an AWD transfer case, nothing connected to the rear output, and I think they used an independent front axle similar to the Eagle instead of a straight axle.
