Subject: [AMC-list] Non AMC question

Hoping someone on here might be able to give me some ideas, I am stuck.

A friend inherited a 1985 Chevy van that has been sitting for 3 years. It has a throttle body. I couldn't get it to start without starting fluid and it would not run. I pumped all the old gas out (which was kind of orange) and put in 5 gallons of fresh gas. I still can not get it to idle or rev up, although if I keep moving the throttle I can keep it running but not very well and it backfires and shoots flames (which the 12 year old that was helping me thought was cool). I don't know too much about throttle bodies, does anyone have any ideas what to try to get the thing running?

Thanks
