Re: [AMC-list] Fw: (Marty Bricker)

Contact one of the AMC vendors (www.kennedyamerican.com, www.americanpartsdepot.com) about the adapter. There are two types -- one that requires machining the crank (used if engine is being rebuilt) and one that has a spacer for the bell housing and just bolts on. The bolt-on costs more, but once you add the machine shop bill for the crank the cost if about the same -- maybe a bit more for the machined type depending on local costs.

The factory 4V engine had 10:1 compression vs. 9:1 for the 2V model, but the heads and valves are the same (different pistons). You can still run a 4V on the 2V engine, just won't be quite as much power as the factory 4V engine (but still a good boost).

You don't want to run the big valve 343/360/390/401 heads on the 290/304. The valves are too close to the cylinder walls to help much, and the top edge of the cylinders need to be notched for the valve to clear. Can't notch below where the rings come up though! Since the valves are so close to the walls there is little (if any) gain. You can have slightly larger valves put in the 290/304 heads, but not a lot of gain unless you're drag racing and have a big cam and other mods to support bigger valves -- and then I'd just get the rather common 360 and work with that instead of the smaller motor.

Will a 904, 277 or 909 transmission bolt up to a 1969 290??? If not, what entails a crank modification?? Finally, the 290 is a 2 barrel but was converted to a 4 barrel.? Do the valves need to be replaced to run the 4 barrel?
