Replaced distributor cap, no effect, checked all spark plug wires and vac lines, nothing. Apears to be 'deeper' in engine, somewhere around 2nd cylinder from front though. Thanks for continued replies. Don't forget the wiring around and in the distributor. Mechanical causes are going to be in the intake portation of the value train. Your first test would be a compression test for a burnt value. Low compression on one cylinder will point you to the cylinder with the problem. With good compression ,pull the value cover visual check of springs, then with a remote starter switch [ called wife son or daughter] pull coil wire rotate the motor and watch the operation of the value springs. cracked or broken springs may not show up sitting still. Also watch highth of rocker arms for bent push rod. Last would be bring #1 cylinder holding your thunb or finger over the spark plug hole feeling for max compression and check rocker arm position in the fireing order. You can take a soft face hammer and tap the edge of the top of the value spring and you should get the same reaction and sound from each one. If none of this works jack up the radiator and change the car. From: Terry Atkins I would do exactly what you are planning Eddie. I would change out the distributor, adjust the carb and check out the vacuum leaks. If all this doesn't fix it then I think Tom is right you have a valve problem. Just went through this with my Explorer. Tom ----- Original Message ----- From: Eddie Stakes I appreciate the replies and here is the car on www.youtube.com so anyone can hear the symptoms, has a miss, and 'klock' sound thru carb. I just drove it slowly to go put new high tech gas in it, and also checked all the screws on the carb also, and checked the vac lines:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAgSNuo9trA Thanks for replies. Eddie Stakes 713.464.8825eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.planethoustonamx.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Joe Fulton One of the symptoms of a lean mixture is backfiring through the carb. Check tosee that the carb hold down nuts are secure and check for elsewhere for anintake vacuum leak, vacuum hoses, etc.====================== From: Tom McKennaEddlie - Don't overlook bad gas, or gas with water in it, if she got fuel somewhere. It will create the same condition. If everything checks out otherwise, try a can of de-icer in the fuel to dry up the water - __._,_.___ __,_._,___ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
