Butch; I do not know about 16" rims, but I run 15x7 Chryco cop car wheels on my 65 American. They fit like a glove and look good. I run 205-60 up front, 235-60 in back. Nice profile.
I have the same on my 64 Classic though I run 215 on all four corners. Plenty of room. Though for some reason I had to space the front wheels 1/4 inch. Could be the 215s instead of 205.....Russ
