" Well, Andrew I saw your post while I was waiting for my lunch to heat up and I
" have all three transmissions in my back room right now so I thought I would
" confirm the measurements.
"
" T-96 (actually with o/d) from a 1962 Classic: Input shaft .750
" T-14 from my 76 Gremlin: input shaft .670
" T-150 (w o/d) NOS : input shaft .670

well, well, well! #1 and #3 are as i stated, but #2 is a surprise.

as for the spline - either the t150 will take your present clutch disk
as you think or you'll need a new one for it, and you're probably
right. iirc amc was still using 9 1/8" clutches in the late '70s.

" I started comparing them last week because was shopping for a crankshaft
" bushing on Rockauto and saw two or three inside diameters for the 76 Gremlin
" with the T-14.
"
" Unfortunately the bushing already in the 1972 crankshaft appears to be for a
" larger input shaft than the T-14 or T-150 so I'll have to remove it after I
" take the engine off of the stand.

that's probably .750, as i'd expect. yours is the first amc warner
tranny i've heard of that didn't have a .750 pilot.

" " I think I already have the third
" " gear switch for the tranny. I confirmed yesterday that the input shaft
" " on the T-150 is the same diameter as the T-14.
"
" this is a surprise to me! everything i've read says the t14 has a
" 15/16" x 10 spline input with a 0.750" pilot [same as t96], while the
" t150 [3sp ford toploader] has a 1 1/16" x 10 spline input with a
" 0.670" pilot, like a boatload of other fords, and the bearing retainer
" and iirc throwout bearing are also ford.
