The older cars didn't use clips in the rubber and were glued -- don't know when they started using the clips. It certainly won't hurt to pull the gasket and use weatherstrip or contact cement on them. Less likely to pull out of place that way. The clips hold it in place, but I'd glue also.

When you replace the door and trunk gaskets, do you just use the press
fit, or do you glue them as well? There are a few spots on the door
where the seals need a touch of glue - just wondering if I should
remove and glue the whole thing.
