Chad,

The six cylinder Javelin would have an AMC 15 rear end.  It's the light duty 
rearend.  The V8 Javelin would have the AMC 20, heavier duty rear end.   The 
gear ratio depends upon several things including horsepower available (actually 
torque available) and whether the car has an automatic transmission.   BUT there 
are other things which come in to play since there were optional gear 
ratios offered both from the factory and as dealer installed parts.  See if you 
can find a marking on the passenger side differential boss near the axle tube.  
There should be a code there which can tell you at least was gear ratio the 
differential is.  I have a 1969 data book and can give you the factory options 
if you want them.  Joe Fulton

hi all i need some INFO;what the diffrance between the diferential in a javelin 
with a 232 6cyl auto. and a 290 v8 auto ,ive looked in the AMC tech manual and 
they don't say one way or the other ? are they the same ?  is one higher geared
