Re: [AMC-list] Six Cylinder Balancers

I parted out an 85 Eagle wagon a couple of years ago and it had the serp belt.
I think it had a shorter crank nose but I sold the crank and rods to a
craigslist customer to make a stroker, so I can't compare it to the other 258
crank I have.

I think that's only on the 87-89 258s. I'm pretty sure the earlier ones with
serp belt have the same length crank nose, but I might be wrong. I know some
85-86 Eagles have a serp belt. Those have the outer ring opposite the 4.0L ring.
There is about a ~1/4" flat beside the pulley groves. That flat is toward the
engine on the 85-86 258, AWAY from the engine on the 4.0L -- the belt sits ~1/4"
closer to the engine on the 4.0L. I'm not sure about the 87-89 258 used in Jeeps
and Eagles. I know for sure those have the shorter snout, not sure if the flat
on the balancer is earlier 258 or 4.0L style. Would affect the water pump too
(sapce between belt and pump -- 4.0L pump is thinner than 258).

the shorter crank nose is on cars with serp belts, 4.0s and some '80s
258s.
