Re: [AMC-list] American wagons vs ttubes and old age...

To save the bandwidth I cut the original text. Its tom's explanation of why he wants to move on.
I certainly see why he has decided the time is here.

The drive line parts on a long trip are what has me waffling on what to put in my conv. The V8 TT and M8 have a really good rep and I have pretty good handle on what I need to do to rebuild mine. I have an identical set of spares.

I really want to do open drive line, but fear I am not up to the task. I will need to examine exactly what it will take to ditch the V8 CV joint and replace all the mounts and seals. Depending on those costs, well that may be the true deciding factor.

I have to have either the T400 or an M8 freshened up anyway. So if the cost of mounts, etc to keep the torque tube are high. Then it will go to open drive line.

My neighbor has to get on the ball or I am going to Craigslist the scrap pile out from under him! I'd do it myself, but the nearest scrap dealers that buy body/sheet steel scrap are 60 mile trip, one way. My utility trailers size means two trips. I may just take a day off and do a break even deal to get it all gone. I have some radiators/heater cores and a couple of catalytic convs that I am taking in myself anyway the local places takes those. If I do the 60 mile place they pay higher prices for those, so maybe it will be worth it in the end?
I sure want to see this crap GONE!
