Re: [AMC-list] 88 Eagle trans mount (oil filter issue fix!)

I did the same with mine. Just took the threaded insert from an old 232 or 258 put it in the 95 4.0L block and use the old style filters now.

There's an easy fix for the oil filter issue. The hole in the block is tapped for a standard US thread adapter. The late model adapter is threaded US for the block, metric for the filter. If you have an older 232/258 lying around just take the filter adapter off and screw it in the Eagle block. The Eagle takes the same metric filter as the early (Renault era) Jeep Cherokee -- not sure if Chrysler changed that or not, don't think so. I did this on the 4.0L in my wagon. Took the 90 degree adapter off and screwed in the adapter from the 74 crank/rod donor block. Look at the threaded piece the oil filter screws on in an older AMC block and you'll see a thin hex head at the base -- get a wrench/deep socket and screw it out!

My mechanic recently put a new transmission mount on wife's maroon 88 Eagle wagon, he got
it over counter at O'Reillys. Part of the problem is many parts houses do not list 1988
AMC anything since AMC basically didn't exist anymore. So have to go 'back' a year and
many computers in parts houses pick it up using 1987 AMC Eagle. Some list it as 1988 Jeep
Eagle also. The oil filters have been my personal bane, as they have smaller screw on hole
than earlier Eagles, same 258, just smaller mount! Little child's portion oil filter.
