77-78 brakes are odd-balls! They use the big bearing set like the big Bendix 2.1" piston calipers but they are 2.6" piston calipers. The originals had a phenolic piston, but the pistons didn't hold up well and leaked after 2-3 years, so chances of finding a set with the original pistons are really low, almost impossible -- replacement steel pistons were issued and all rebuilt calipers had steel pistons. Don't know if there was a factory recall or they were just replaced under warranty as needed. The rotors are a hard find though. Check www.rockauto.com for rotor price, that's the only hard/expensive to replace item, everything else is pretty easy to get. Some of the chain stores don't have a supplier for the most common 79-83 rotors anymore.

You need everything from the caliper bracket out to use them on another car, including the spindle.

Hey group,
Working on the Gremlins today and noticing the disc brakes on  the 78 and wondered IF pulling these off how much and what parts would be needed for conversion.  Should be worth saving, right?  THANKS for the input.
