Yes the distributors are interchangable from the 290 all the way up to the 401. I would be carefull what distributor you buy. I have heard bad things about Ebay HEI v-8 distributors not being made right and causing gear wear issues in addition to the normal issues. 
 I use MSD or Petronix on my v-8's.

Kind of stupid question. The V8 edition only lists the newer
engines-304,360,401. It will work on a 343, correct? If memory serves me
correctly the early & later dist. are the same. I would like to take the
aftermarket (duel point) outta the AMX & put the Javelins in it's place.
