Re: [AMC-list] Today's Pie in the Sky Award #2

This DEFINITELY qualifies for a #1 award!! It's only overpriced by about $30,000. Price guides list the rather rare four door hardtop at $8250 in #1 condition -- which is near perfection. This one has a cracked windshield and non-functional gas gauge. I'd brush over the gas gauge I think, sending unit will likely take care of that, $100-$150 fix. The windshield would be up around $600 and couldn't be overlooked.
The price guides are usually under priced by 40-100% on Ramblers due to not many being sold at auction and in other public venues, but this is a Super sedan with a listed price of $7150 in #1 condition, and it's a #2 at best ($4300). I think I'd start with the #1 condition price because it DOES look very good and is supposedly mostly original, which does add a lot of value with collectors today. I'm a bit skeptical that it's original paint, but will take the sellers word for now. I'd deduct at least the $500 for the windshield, but assuming everything is in very good presentable condition and mostly original, would add a bit more for top collector value. MAX value for that car in the current market as is is roughly $7000, and that is pushing it just a bit. I'd say he'd be lucky to actually sell for $5000-$6000 in the next few weeks -- unless it looks just like someone's grandfather's or other close attachment's car and they REALLY wanted it -- or some other collectible/nostal
gic/emotional reason. It's possible then that it might bring as much as $10K, but I wouldn't hole my breath on that. But strange things happen at auctions -- and a big auction is the only place it might bring $10K or so. If the paint is verified original it's possible, but no where near $30K.
The above pricing is just a start, would have to research what some similar examples have actually brought over the last year. Could be around $10K because of the originality (assuming that's verified).
